Updated: Names released in Carver crash

Minnesota State Patrol has released the names of the individuals involved in a fatal crash on Highway 212 just outside of Carver Thursday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Luallen Kettner, 73, of Chaska was the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed 47-year-old construction flagger Leo Kuisle, of Stewartville. Kuisle died at the scene of the crash. No injuries to Kettner have been reported.

The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. Thursday on Highway 212 near Mount Hope Road.


Taser: Friend or foe?

Chaska Police Sgt. Mike Duzan knows the value of tasers. When he was an officer in St. Paul, he broke his hand in an altercation. Today he suffers from arthritis as a result of that break.

“I wish I would have had one of these then,” he said of his taser.

Crash in Carver

Minnesota State Patrol closed a section of Highway 212 this morning after a fatal crash at Mount Hope Road where an SUV driver reportedly struck and killed a pedestrian. 

The roadway was closed from new Co. Rd. 147 to Co. Rd. 43 for investigation and crash reconstruction. It reopened around 10 a.m.

CHS grad dies after tasing incident

A former CHS grad died after police used a taser on him at a St. Paul apartment.

Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Kubat passed away on Sunday following an alleged altercation with police.


Police seek information on vandalized cars

The Chaska Police Department is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of persons responsible for vandalizing two cars at Lenzen Chevrolet last month.

Between 7:30 p.m. on April 22, and 7:15 a.m. on April 23, two vehicles were damaged at Lenzen Chevrolet, 480 Hwy 212 E. The person or persons responsible threw rocks through the windows of two parked motor vehicles causing over $ 1200.00 in damage.


Knight recognized with President's Award

According to the latest newsletter from the Chaska Police Department, Police Chief Scott Knight was recently presented with the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association's (MCPA) President's Award.

At the annual MCPA training conference April 21 – 24, in Duluth, President Mitch Weinzetl presented Chief Scott Knight with the award in "recognition of valuable contributions to the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association (MCPA) and to professional law enforcement."


Mayor attends national summit against illegal guns

Chaska Mayor Gary Van Eyll was one of 60 mayors, police chiefs and city representatives in attendance at the "Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition National Summit" on Monday.

In a press conference, the group announced a new partnership with Wal-mart that would implement stricter gun sale policies.


UPDATED: Chaska man arrested in homicide case

A Chaska man was arrested Monday in connection with a Shakopee man’s death on March 13.

Danya Mandrell McKinnie, 27, of Chaska, was arrested and charged for alleged second-degree murder and aggravated robbery following the death of 62-year-old Duane Sorensen, of Shakopee. Charges were filed in Anoka County Court on Wednesday morning, Assistant County Attorney Paul Young confirmed.

The following were cited for minor consumption of alcohol: an 18-year-old Rosemount woman; an 18-year-old West Hempstead N.Y. woman; two 18-year-old Chanhassen women; a 19-year-old Chanhassen man; a 20-year-old Chaska man; an 18-year-old Chaska woman; and an 18-year-old Chaska man.
