At 12:08 a.m., Friday, Aug. 29, emergency crews responded to a one-car fatal crash in Watertown Township.

Luke Allen Schultz, 16, son of Jeffery and Karen Schultz of Watertown, died in the accident. Two other occupants were hospitalized.

The vehicle was westbound on Mill Avenue, one-fifth mile east of Ironwood Avenue, when it lost control on the gravel road surface, left the road and struck a tree, according to a Carver County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Amanda Mae Spooner, 18, of Watertown was the driver of the 1994 red Pontiac, according to the release. Brett Hansen-Begg, 16, of Watertown, was the other passenger in the car.

Spooner and Hansen-Begg were transported to Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. Hansen-Begg was then transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by helicopter for further medical attention.

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office, Watertown Fire Department and Ridgeview Ambulance were dispatched to the accident, which is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner.
