Brody (Bermel) Roehlke will face charges of second and third degree murder. According to a press release from Carver County Attorney Jim Keeler, amended charges were filed in Carver County District Court on Tuesday.
Roehlke, 16, of Chaska, was charged with first and second degree assault on Aug. 8 after an alleged altercation with his mother’s fiancé Kirk Anderson on Aug. 6. The altercation resulted in Anderson being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) with head injuries. Anderson died at HCMC on Aug. 9.
Keeler originally stated he was waiting for further information from police and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office before he would consider amending charges against Roehlke in the case. According to the press release, the medical examiner’s office determined the manner of death to be homicide and the cause of death to be blunt force head and brain injuries.
Keeler is attempting to try Roehlke as an adult. The certification hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1.
