How did he find love in a

How did he find love in a boys' home?

“I had been shooting the movie for about two weeks at that time, having a blast and running around with these kids,” said Fournier. “One of the days we were taking a break, and in walks this beautiful African lady who greets the other people in the room in Ugandan. I figured she must be somebody’s wife because she knew everybody.”

It turned out they were both single and close to the same age.

“I was at probably the highest fun point in my life, and we were getting close to the end of filming. It was pretty tentative at first, but as we learned more about each other, I realized this woman is beautiful and fun and kind,” he said.

He returned to Minnesota, and the couple had a long-distance relationship for more than a year while she remained in Uganda. E-mail and phone conversations kept them in touch and allowed their relationship to develop. Was it difficult from an emotional standpoint? Yes, but Fournier said he was so busy working at his retail job and editing the film in his spare time that it was like he was married to the project.

“I went back to Uganda again to record narration, and I brought an engagement ring with me. I wanted to make sure this was the right direction to go with my life,” he said. “I was asking myself, ‘Am I just building this up in my mind? Or is this real?’”

It was real, and midway through the trip, he proposed. That was in 2004. Now the couple is married and living in Eden Prairie.

"Hellboy 2: The Musical"

"Hellboy 2: The Musical" opens today. Well, actually it's "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, but it does star Ron Perlman, who is a Chanhassen Dinner Theatres alumnus.

Amy Adams and Perlman must be the biggest stars to have emerged from Chanhassen institution.

I can't help but wonder what musical prepared Perlman for Hellboy. "Oklahoma" perhaps?

I know Armando trough a

I know Armando trough a friend that was his neighbor for about half of year. He seems to be a very nice guy and many people can't believe he's a tattoo artist. He even offered to give me another tattoo for free but I had to pass. Not because I don't trust him but because of my job. I had three tattoos prior to my recent hiring and had to give one up because it was visible. It took me a great deal of courage but I finally decided and went to the Houston tattoo removal and got it off. The procedure isn't as painful as I thought and the marks on my skin are almost gone.

FYI: In conjunction with Worlds Away, the Walker and the Metropolitan Design Center are presenting the panel discussion Next Exit: The Shifting Landscape of Suburbia.

The free program, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, addresses issues facing city planners, designers, and developers as our Minnesota suburbs continue to grow. In today's expanding metropolitan areas, the lines between urban and suburban are blurring.

Panelists Lance Nekar, Metropolitan Design Center; Dan Bergin of Twin Cities Public Television; and Michael Lander of Lander Group, a development corporation, will discuss population growth, immigration, and transportation, how suburbs are becoming destination environments, and the cultural implications of these shifts.

Independent journalist Todd Melby moderates what should be a lively debate and discussion.

A St. Patrick’s Day

A St. Patrick’s Day Operation NightCAP (nighttime concentrated alcohol patrol) DWI crackdown in the state’s 15 deadliest counties for impaired driving resulted in 89 impaired driving arrests — 51 DWIs were in the Twin Cities.

Officers from 46 agencies participated in the efforts conducted Friday, Saturday and Monday night. Officers stopped more than 1,720 vehicles and cited 557 drivers for traffic- and equipment-related violations, according to a Department of Public Safety press release.

A St. Patrick’s Weekend

A St. Patrick’s Weekend also means more DUIs.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Public Safety officials expect the extended celebration will lead to a spike in impaired driving.

St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated on a Saturday in 2007 and 526 motorists were arrested for DWI — nearly twice the DWI count from 2005 when the holiday landed on a Thursday, the release stated.

As a result Minnesota law enforcement will ramp up DWI patrols in the state’s 15 deadliest counties for impaired driving during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

“Over the last three years on St. Patrick’s Day in Minnesota, alcohol-related crashes accounted for four of 11 traffic deaths and nine of 25 serious injuries. There were 1,263 impaired drivers arrested for DWI statewide on St. Patrick’s Day 2005–2007,” the release stated.

Carver County A-Lister Amy

Carver County A-Lister Amy Adams’ popularity has been growing over the past few years.

However, she recently seems to have shot into the Hollywood stratosphere.

At the Academy Awards, she performed one of three songs nominated for an Oscar from her summer Disney movie “Enchanted.”

And she also graces THREE magazine covers currently on the stands, including Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood issue, Interview, and Elle.

We’re bound to see more of her this spring, with the spring release of “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.”

In the Interview article, Adams gives a big shout out to her Chanhassen Dinner Theatre “family”:

“Eventually I ended up in Minnesota at a theater company where you did not have to wait tables. … But it was also remarkable to me how talented the people in these theaters were. When I arrived at Chanhassen in Minnesota I was stunned – the dancers were awesome and all of them could sing. I ended up staying there for three years. There were times when I first arrived in Los Angeles where I would pine for that time when I knew exactly what was in front of me, and every day was the same … The people I worked with there were also a great family to me… ."

"An Almost Wedding"
Father

"An Almost Wedding"
Father Conran Schneider, O.F.M. sent us this memorable wedding moment:
"I had a wedding scheduled in Ashland, Wisconsin. Relatives and friends were gathered in church waiting for the wedding to take place.

"I had to announce from the pulpit the wedding had been called off.

"Three weeks later when the couple changed its mind, we had the wedding. Now, 40 years later, the couple is still happily married."

I was excited to add "Friday

I was excited to add "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" to our list of movies filmed in Carver County.

The movie had scenes shot on Lake Minnewashta, according to "Behind the Cameras: Minnesotans in the Movies, Volume 2." Those who love films and don't own Rolf Canton's homage to movies in Minnesota, should purchase his two-volume work.

Does anyone remember "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" being filmed out here? Did Lake Minnewashta serve as cinema's infamous Crystal Lake? If anyone has any particularly good Crispin Glover anecdotes, I'd be particularly thankful.

I also added the TV movie "The Stranger Within," to our list.

If anyone has "The Stranger Within" or "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter," on tape or DVD, we'd like to borrow them. Please drop a copy by the Herald office (123 Second Street West).
